Healthy Smoothie Tutorial!

1) How do you feel about the overall outcome of this piece in relation to your art making process?
Overall, I feel okay with the outcome.  I like the idea of peering into a microscope as the perspective, and I think I include a lot of elements of my life, but I do not feel the piece overall is cohesive.  I think there would be a different more effective way of narrating my message.

2) In what way did you integrate your personal art practice into this project?
I integrated my personal art into this piece by putting my own drawings in the paint palette and in the smoothie fabric as well as some of my fashion pieces made floating around in the fabric and spoon.  My chemistry lab notebook, as well as bacteria experiment, are also featured

3) How did you challenge yourself creatively, conceptually and/or technically in the making of this piece?  I challenged myself creatively and conceptually by trying to showcase how at odds I am with my majors and two very different interests, although I do not entirely feel satisfied with the outcome of it.  I think the perspective was challenging to work with and drawing the blender on photoshop challenged myself technically.

4) Were there elements that made the completion of this piece either more difficult or felt not challenging enough?
The composition made the completion of this piece more difficult because I had an overall message I wanted to get across, however, felt that adding symbols or more personal information would detract from the aesthetics of the piece.  I feel as though I could have made this more difficult by more-so blending my art together in a more cohesive way instead of just plopping it down in the smoothie.

Reflect on the project critique: was the feedback you received helpful? Be specific about why or why not.
The feedback I received was definitely helpful.  I asked for tips for composition and improvement in photoshop in general, and I got a lot of helpful advice on how to make the objects appear more "lived-in" such as adding more shadows or by using puppet warp to make the objects more set into the fabric of the blender.  It was reassuring that my message was actually able to be received accurately by the audience.

Please share any other thoughts.
Though I liked sharing my work, I especially liked seeing others share theirs'.  I do not have much experience with critiques, however, the ability of others sharing some of their personal troubles through their own art and words was really eye-opening. Also, hearing what others have to say is super interesting and I feel as though I can learn from the discussion as well.

Project 1 Brainstorming Blog Post

Part 1 Due On 1/30 Project 1 Brainstorming Blog Post: Look at student work and artists listed below, choose at least one to respond to. Use these examples as inspiration for this assignment. Written brainstorm responding to the questions outlined below. Your sketch/map should be posted to your blog before class with clear written explanations if visuals are unclear. Bring preliminary images to start working with (these may not end up being your final images so don't spend a lot of time processing them before brainstorming discussions). Who are you and how does your artistic practice reflect that identity?  still learning who I am - I think my identity is hard to define because I think strongly associate identity with career goals and aspirations.  I think this has been ingrained heavily growing up with emphasis on school.  I think my artistic practice tends to strive for balance and minimalist, yet my brain can get very jumbled and chaotic.  ...

1) Composing movement: The points made about how to convey emotion were very interesting and pointed out ideas that I never considered when watching films.  The point about how to make emotions more intense depending on the amount of people involved in the movement at once.  The speaker used different directors of special effects to showcase how films (that are considered eyecatching) involve many moving parts in the background.  2) Editing time and space: Animation requires fewer frames in order to get a message across.  Also, I think the way Kon did cuts between scenes or to show a dream was extremely creative and requires a lot of vision.  The video mentioned he would sketch out scenes having the next one in mind.  I think being able to see these connections is really amazing, however, I wonder if Kon ever sees these connections between images for cuts between scenes, but others do not see it or understand it.  Does he include it anyway and hope...
